David Griffin Believes Anthony Davis Could Stay with Pelicans Amid Trade Rumors - Bleacher Report

Even though Anthony Davis appeared to be checked out as the 2018-19 season came to a close, the New Orleans Pelicans aren't shutting the door on bringing their All-Star center back.

During his introductory press conference Wednesday, David Griffin, New Orleans' new executive vice president of basketball operations, expressed optimism about Davis remaining with the team after talking to Davis' agent, Rich Paul.

"We have a long successful history with Klutch Sports," Griffin told reporters. "Rich Paul and I have spoke about Anthony. We are both excited about what we could potentially build here. ... Rich Paul and I were part of succeeding. They will understand when I say this, 'You are either all the way or all the way out.'"

Per Andrew Lopez of the Times-Picayune, Griffin has set up a time soon to speak with Davis directly.

Davis' choice of attire to the Pelicans' season finale against the Golden State Warriors led to speculation that he was saying a tongue-in-cheek farewell to the organization:

The T-shirt came after Davis and the Pelicans struggled to navigate their relationship down the stretch in the wake of his trade request in January. He averaged 22 minutes per contest in 15 games after the All-Star break and didn't play after a March 24 loss against the Houston Rockets

Davis has one more guaranteed season on his contract for $27.093 million, per Spotrac.

Griffin is in charge of rebuilding New Orleans' roster. He previously served as general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2014-17. The 45-year-old negotiated the deal with Paul that brought LeBron James back to the Cavs.

The Pelicans have won one postseason series in two playoff appearances in Davis' seven NBA seasons. Their 33-49 record in 2018-19 was tied with the Dallas Mavericks and Memphis Grizzlies for worst in the Southwest Division.

Tiger Woods earns trip to N.J. after winning the Masters: Where and when he will visit the Garden State - NJ.com

Tiger Woods will be spending part of his summer in New Jersey.

By winning the 2019 Masters on Sunday, he qualified for the Northern Trust, the PGA Tour’s stop at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City the week of August 6.

Woods’ victory was his first major title since winning the 2008 U.S. Open, and it came 22 years after his first career win at the Masters in 1997. By winning the Masters, Woods claimed his fifth career victory at Augusta National and his 15th major championship overall. Both are second all-time to Jack Nicklaus.

Below are the details about Woods’ appearance at the Northern Trust, per the PGA Tour:

JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY – Tiger Woods won his 81st career PGA TOUR title Sunday at the Masters Tournament and is now one win shy of tying Sam Snead’s all-time record of 82 TOUR victories. With the victory, Woods earned 600 FedExCup points and moved up to No. 13 in the FedExCup standings, clinching a spot at THE NORTHERN TRUST, the first of three FedExCup Playoffs events, when it returns to Liberty National Golf Club August 6-11.

THE NORTHERN TRUST is one of the few events on the PGA TOUR that Woods has regularly played but never won. In nine career appearances at THE NORTHERN TRUST, Woods has two runner-up finishes, both of which came at Liberty National Golf Club (2009 and 2013). Woods, who remains the only player to win the FedExCup multiple times, finished second in the FedExCup standings last season after winning the TOUR Championship.

With his win at the Masters Tournament on Sunday, Woods has now made the cut in each of his last 14 starts and has now won twice in his last seven starts as he continues to chase Snead’s record of 82. Fans are encouraged to follow Woods’ pursuit of 82 PGA TOUR victories at www.pgatour.com/chasing82.

Dustin Johnson, the 2011 and 2017 champion of THE NORTHERN TRUST, finished just one shot back of Woods at the Masters in a tie for second with 2018 PGA TOUR Player of the Year Brooks Koepka and Xander Schauffele. Schauffele, who has two victories on the season, moved to No. 2 in the FedExCup standings, with Johnson jumping to No. 5 and Koepka one spot behind at No. 6. The 2018 FedExCup champion Justin Rose is currently No. 16 in the FedExCup standings as he attempts to become the first player to defend the FedExCup title.

THE 2010 NORTHERN TRUST champion Matt Kuchar has maintained his No. 1 spot in the FedExCup standings for the past three weeks, thanks to five top-10 finishes in 12 starts this season, including two wins at the Mayakoba Golf Classic and Sony Open in Hawaii. Kuchar, who finished T12 at the Masters last weekend, finished T60 at THE NORTHERN TRUST last year and failed to advance to the TOUR Championship for the first time since 2009.

Bryson DeChambeau, THE NORTHERN TRUST’s defending champion, posted a T21 finish at the Masters and is 18th in the FedExCup standings. DeChambeau held a share of the first-round lead at Augusta National after opening with a 6-under 66 but closed with rounds of 75-73-70 to finish at 4-under 284. During the final round, DeChambeau recorded his first career hole-in-one, with an ace on the par-3 16th. The five-time PGA TOUR winner won each of the first two FedExCup Playoff events in 2018 but finished T19 at the BMW Championship and 19th at the TOUR Championship for a ninth-place finish in the final FedExCup standings.

THE NORTHERN TRUST remains the first tournament of the season-ending FedExCup Playoffs and will be played Aug. 8-11 at Liberty National Golf Club as one of three FedExCup Playoffs events. The top 125 in the FedExCup standings will qualify for THE NORTHERN TRUST, but only 70 will advance to the next Playoff event, which puts an even greater emphasis on playing well at Liberty National this August.

With the halfway point of the season already complete, here’s a look at the current top 20 in the FedExCup standings.

NFL Schedule 2019 Leaks [UPDATING] - The Big Lead

A tradition unlike any other is getting all excited for the NFL schedule release at night, and for leaks to be bountiful in the hours leading up to it. This is almost certainly by design to heighten the drama. While some may disagree, this is sneakily one of my favorite days of the year. I’m going to spend much of the morning and afternoon chronicling these, so keep this open in a tab and refresh throughout the day (Please @ me if you see any)!

We already know the season is kicking off with Packers-Bears at Soldier Field on September 5th; here are some more leaks that have been trickling out:

Eagles to host Washington Redskins in 2019 season opener, source says - Philly.com

Atlanta is a familiar foe. The Eagles have met the Falcons in each of the previous four seasons. They beat them in last season’s season opener at the Linc, the year before in the playoffs, and in 2016. The Eagles fell to Atlanta, though, in 2015, Chip Kelly’s last season as head coach.
